Ranger Challenge and Sandhurst
About:
Ranger Challenge is Army ROTC’s Varsity Sport. Teams form early in the semester and train rigorously to prepare for the Fall Semester 2nd Brigade Competition where they compete against 44 other ROTC programs/universities in the North East . A first or second place finish at Ranger Challenge qualifies a team for the Sandhurst International Military Skills Competition which is hosted by the United States Military Academy at West Point in April. For the past five years, the Steel Battalion has placed top five teams at 2nd Brigade Ranger Challenge, winning for three of those five years. This tight knit group pushes themselves physically and mentally in rigorous practices that build a team ready to face whatever the competition may throw at them.
“The Ranger Challenge Team is a twelve-person team that is chosen to represent the Steel Battalion in the Annual Freedom Brigade Ranger Challenge Competition. The Competition consists of up to ten events each year that demand tactical, physical, and mental excellence from the team while competing with more than forty other battalions. The goal is to take first place and the opportunities and accolades that come with it. The training is tough but rewarding, and those who make the team are fighting to continue the Steel Battalion’s legacy of excellence.”
